Moray Eel – Muraena helena – Just Watching

Moray eels always seem to be lurking — and this one is no exception. Muraena helena has a long, snake-like body that’s tough and slightly compressed toward the tail. Its short head and constantly open mouth give it a fierce look, though it’s usually just watching. No pectoral fins, but plenty of attitude. Found along rocky bottoms from shallow waters down to 80 meters. Can grow up to 1.3 meters.
