Moray Eel – Muraena helena – No, I Don’t…
Moray eels have a way of always lurking in the shadows — and this one is no exception. Muraena helena has a long, snake-like body that is muscular and slightly compressed toward the tail. With its short head and habit of keeping its mouth open, it has a fierce appearance, though it’s often just observing. Lacking pectoral fins but full of character, this species lives along rocky bottoms from shallow waters down to depths of 80 meters, and can grow up to 1.3 meters in length.
