A striking close-up of the Amberjack (Balistes carolinensis) in its natural deep-sea habitat.
This robust, torpedo-shaped fish features a laterally compressed body and a well-developed head. Its twin-lobed, sharply defined caudal fin is connected by a slender peduncle. The Amberjack displays a silvery-grey body marked with a dark stripe running from the eyes along the sides. While typically found in deep-sea waters, it often approaches coastal areas between depths of 10 to 70 meters. It can grow up to a maximum size of 2 meters.
