Red Scorpionfish (Scorpaena scrofa) lurking in the shadows

The largest of the Mediterranean scorpionfish species, the Red Scorpionfish is easy to spot thanks to its fringe-like appendages around the head, mouth, and sides. It has a reddish body with dark brown-black blotches. Found on rocky or sandy bottoms and among Neptune grass, from shallow waters around 3–4 meters down to over 300 meters. Can grow up to 50 cm long.
