Ciona - Ciona intestinalis - In the spot light
Cylindrical ascidian, covered with a thick, gelatinous, highly contractile tunic. The mouth and anal siphons are multilobed. Whitish, translucid. Found on hard substrates from 1 - 2 meters to 500 meters. Maximum size 20 centimeters.
