P29 - Boltenhagen

P29 – Boltenhagen Wreck, Malta

The vessel known today as P29 was originally built in 1970 in Wolgast, East Germany, as a Condor I class minesweeper named Boltenhagen. Following German reunification, the ship was sold to Malta together with her sister ships P30 (ex Ueckermünde) and P31 (ex Pasewalk), where they were used for border patrol duties.

The P29 measures 51.98 meters in length with a beam of 7.12 meters and a draft of 2.3 meters. Powered by two Russian MD 40 diesel engines producing 4000 hp, she could reach a top speed of 20 knots. Today, scuttled off Malta, the P29 serves as an artificial reef and a popular dive site.
