Karwela

Karwela – Passenger Ferry Wreck, Gozo

Originally built in Germany in 1957 as M/S Frisia II, the vessel could carry up to 863 passengers and operated between Norderney and Norddeich until 1977. That year she was sold and renamed Nordpaloma, but following the company’s bankruptcy, the ship was transferred to Malta.

Under Captain Morgan Cruises she was renamed MV Karwela and carried tourists on day cruises around Malta and Comino. After decommissioning, she was scuttled off ix-Xatt l-Ahmar, Gozo in 2006, where she now rests as an artificial reef and popular dive site.
