Cominoland – Historic Wreck off Gozo
The "Cominoland" was built in 1942 and delivered to the Royal Navy as the minesweeper "M6," soon renamed "Miner VI." In 1966 the vessel was converted into a ferry and sent to Malta. By 1968 she was operating between Valletta and Comino under the name "Minor Eagle." Later, Gozo Channel Co. Ltd took over operations and renamed the ship "Cominoland." In 1980, the former minesweeper was converted into a day-cruise passenger ship and renamed "Jylland II," only to be sold again in 1984 to Captain Morgan Cruises, who restored her name to "Cominoland." For years, she carried passengers on day trips to Comino and harbor cruises through Valletta’s Grand Harbour. After being decommissioned, the "Cominoland" was scuttled off ix-Xatt l-Aħmar, Gozo, in 2006, where it now rests as an artificial reef and dive site.
