Sea Stars – Asteroidea
Sea stars, often referred to as starfish, are echinoderms belonging to the class Asteroidea. While commonly pictured with five arms, some species such as sun stars and cushion stars may have many more. The term “starfish” is sometimes used more broadly to also include brittle stars (Ophiuroidea), a closely related group. With their distinctive symmetry, varied colors, and diverse forms, sea stars are both important marine organisms and captivating subjects for underwater photography.
