Rabbitfish

Rabbitfish – Siganidae

Rabbitfish, also known as spinefoots, are perciform fishes belonging to the family Siganidae. All 28 known species are grouped in the genus Siganus. Some species, with distinctive facial stripes, are popularly referred to as “foxfaces,” while others, like the masked spinefoot (Siganus puellus), display reduced stripe patterns. Native to the shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific, several species such as Siganus luridus and Siganus rivulatus have also spread into the eastern Mediterranean through Lessepsian migration. Their striking colors and bold patterns make rabbitfish excellent subjects for underwater photography.
