Dentex

Dentex – Dentex dentex
The common dentex (Dentex dentex) is a member of the Sparidae family, found mainly in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the Black Sea and Eastern Atlantic Ocean from the British Isles to Mauritania, occasionally reaching Senegal and the Canary Islands. This species inhabits sandy or rocky seabeds down to 200 meters and is an active predator, feeding on fish, mollusks, and cephalopods. While adults are usually solitary, young dentex often form schools and are less wary of divers. Adults can grow up to one meter in length and weigh up to 14 kg. Juveniles display a brown-blue coloration with vivid blue fins, while adults are typically grey-blue – making them fascinating subjects for underwater photography.
