Wat Lokaya Sutha – Temple of the Earth

Wat Lokaya Sutha, located near the northwest tip of Ayutthaya’s historical island close to the old Royal Palace and Wat Phra Si Sanphet, is best known for its monumental Reclining Buddha. The statue stretches an impressive 42 meters and is often draped in vibrant orange cloth, making it a striking subject for photography.

Apart from the central prang, which remains in fairly good condition, most of the main monastery structures have vanished, leaving behind only their base. The site reflects both the grandeur and the fragility of Ayutthaya’s sacred heritage.
